Durga Puja is also known as Dussehra or Durgotsava. Goddess Durga is Worshiped in Dussehra. It is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.
Durga Puja is celebrated in the month of Ashvin according to the Hindu calendar.This is a festival of 10 Days. Dussehra is the conclusion of the Navaratri festival. The whole country Delhi to Mysore and Gujarat to Bengal, celebrates this festival with full of fun.
Number of states celebrate Durga’s triumph over the evil spirit Mahishasur, while Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana the King of demons is celebrated in some states.
1. Delhi
Dussehra or Vijayadashmi is the most popular Indian festivals that is celebrated in the month of Ashwin and kartik.Hindus rejoice 10 days ritual of fast, celebrations and rituals to admire the victory of Lord Rama over evil Ravana. This festival starts from Navratri and ends with “Dussehra”. 4. Varanasi
Durga Puja in Varanasi is a different experience altogether. A dance drama, Ram Leela is performed to enact the lives of Ram, Sita and Lakshman. The complete city becomes a Ram Leela ground during Navratri. In Ramnagar one of the most famous Ramlila is held.It is about 15 kilometers away from Varanasi. The performance of Ramcharitamanas on nine days of the festival is considered a virtue.
5. Mysore
The 400-year-old Dussehra festivity is celebrated in Mysore. It is celebrated in the month of September or October. This festival is celebrated for ten days, the last day of festival is called ‘Vijayadashami’. It is the most auspicious festival of Mysore. During Dussehra each night the Mysore Palace remains outstanding illuminate.
